We all know that aloe vera is great for your body inside and out, but did you know you could use your aloe vera gel and coconut oil from the pantry as the best shaving gel ever? I used to use body wash to shave my legs, ย and occasionally I would treat myself to a can of fancy ladies shaving cream. That is until I discovered this amazing Lavender Coconut Aloe Vera Shave Gel.

Lavender Coconut Aloe Vera Shave Gel

LAVENDER COCONUT ALOE VERA SHAVE GEL

Besides the fact that it gives you a great, smooth shave, it leaves your legs silky, moisturized and conditioned. ย Even in the driest winter conditions you probably won't even need a lotion when you get out of the water. ย Another bonus? No weird chemicals on ย your body. Finally, you can use essential oils to create any combination you want.. I love lavender which is also known for its skin healing ย and soothing properties. Lemongrass, lime, and almond also pair well with coconut. So let's get started making this homemade shave gel using lavender, coconut oil, and aloe vera!

Ingredients:

ยพ cup Aloe Vera gel

ยผ cup coconut oil

1 vitamin E capsule

10-15 drops essential oil

Directions:

Heat coconut oil for 15 seconds at a time until almost melted- this usually only takes about 3o seconds total in my microwave.

Combine aloe vera and coconut oil, stir well until combined.

Poke a hole in a vitamin E capsule and squirt the contents into your mixture, if you buy it by the bottle instead add in 1 tsp.

aloe-vera-shave-cream-vitamin e

Stir in your favorite essential oil until it smells good to you.

Place in an airtight container. ย I like to ย use plastic since the contents are slippery and it s kept in the wet shower just in case it gets dropped I don't have to worry about glass. I found this plastic pump bottle at Hobby Lobby for $1.50 and it works perfectly and ย just holds the amount the recipe above makes. You can also use this inexpensive pump dispenser.

Shake well before each use.

This will clog up your razor quicker than standard shaving cream, you can make your blades last longer by rinsing well and swishing it around in alcohol to help remove the oil, dry it well.

Not only is this a great product to make for yourself, you could easily whip up batches of this to include in gift baskets for your friends and family!ย  Throw this Lavender Coconut Aloe Vera Shave Gel into a great basket and add in a pack of nice razors, one of our shower scrubs, a bath gel or a body wash and poof and you have a great semi-homemade beauty product gift basket for your friends!

In the small amount you use, with hot water going through it shouldn't be a problem. I've used for some time and never seen it cause an issue.

Vitamin E is great for healing wounds, tears, etc. I believe that would be the intention in this. It protects and heals the skin from the outside as well as helps internally ๐Ÿ™‚

I, personally, wouldn't heat the coconut oil in the microwave as you are killing anything nutritional/beneficial about using it. We went microwave free almost a year ago and have been so happy to not depend on it.

Well it's not being ingested for this use, so it doesn't really matter if there's not any nutritional stuff in the CO. I personally used almond oil in the batch I made since it's already liquid form.

I did! It was kinda gloppy and I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong. I pulled out my immersion blender and MAGIC happened. Turned it into a beautiful creamy lotion!

This sounds fab. If using fresh aloe Vera would it be ok to add a touch of lemon juice to preserve it?

Pure essential oils will degrade regular plastic containers and leach the chemicals out of it. Use glass or PET (PETE) plastic. Also, microwaving coconut oil will destroy the good qualities of it. Heat it in a double boiler or a glass bowl inside a pot of water.

This batch usually lasts 4-6 weeks. I would think it would be shelf stable for a considerable amount of time, but don't have first hand knowledge past that mark.

Could I use grapeseed oil instead of the coconut oil since it's already in liquid form? Also, any suggestions on which essential oil (s) you like to use? I'm excited to try this, as I made another shave oil, but my daughter wanted me to search a recipe for something thicker!

You can use grapeseed, almond, coconut, or even olive oil instead of coconut oil if you prefer. Coconut oil does whip better to make it a bit fluffier and thicker though. I love the lavender and lemon combination, but you might also want to try lemon and lime, bergamot and ginger, orange and ginger. Any of your favorite combinations will work ๐Ÿ™‚

Besides the skin benefits vitamin E acts as a natural preservative
