One of my biggest hurdles when trying to be healthier and lose weight is food. Okay, let's just admit it - food is the hurdle. I love food. I love things that taste good. I can't help it! These 45 Snacks Under 100 Calories are some of my lifesavers on the days when I just can't help but want to eat all day long. I admit that I am an emotional eater. I love food and when I am happy, excited, sad, depressed I crave it. Things like cheese, creamy sauces, sweet and salty mixes and of course chocolate are so hard to resist. Now I have a long list of things I can grab and have without the guilt. Of course, I must make sure I do so within reason and keep track so I don't end up eating 20 snacks in one day instead of 2-3 and regular meals.
45 SNACKS UNDER 100 CALORIES
- Fat Free Pretzels: 18-20 {check labels brands and styles vary in calorie count}
- Nonfat Yogurt: 6oz
- Banana: 1 small
- Dark Chocolate: 3 squares (1oz)
- Smore's: 1 Marshmallow, 1 square dark chocolate and 1 sheet reduced fat Graham crackers. Pop in microwave for 15-20 seconds to melt.
- Graham Crackers & PB2: 1 sheet reduced fat Graham crackers and 1 tablespoon prepared PB2
- Air Popped Pocorn: 3 Cups
- String Cheese: 1-2 depending on brand
- Laughing Cow Cheese Wedge: Each wedge is only 35-45 calories
- Turkey Pepperoni: 17 slices is only 70 calories
- Seasoned Whole Wheat or Multi-Grain Crackers:7-12 crackers depending on brand
- Frozen Banana dipped in melted dark chocolate: 1 small banana and 1 square dark chocolate melted
- Frozen Yogurt Covered Blueberries or Grapes. Roll fruit in nonfat yogurt, place on wax paper lined pan and freeze. They will need to be kept frozen in airtight container until eaten but are great "popable" frozen and yummy treats.
- 45 Calorie Bread Toasted with Sugar Free Fruit Spread
- Baby Carrots with Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip: Mix 1 Cup Greek Yogurt with Ranch Seasoning Mix to create fat free yummy dip.
- Chocolate Milk: 8 oz skim milk with 1 tablespoon sugar free chocolate syrup
- Fat Free Sugar Free Pudding Cup {Or single serving sugar free pudding made with fat free or skim milk}
- Cinnamon Apples: Slice and core one apple, microwave for 3-4 minutes on high with ½ teaspoon margarine and a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar substitute.
- Sherbert: ½ cup Favorite Flavor - we love Pineapple, Lime and Raspberry
- Frozen Yogurt: ½ Cup Favorite Flavor - we love Peach, Black Cherry, Chocolate and Vanilla with Fresh Fruit Mixed In
- Sugar Snap Peas with Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip: Mix 1 Cup Greek Yogurt with Ranch Seasoning Mix to create fat free yummy dip. Serve with 1 cup Sugar Snap Peas.
- Baked Potato with Salsa: 1 small baked potato (2-3oz) with 1 Tablespoon Salsa
- 2 Mini Size Candy Bars: Check label for calorie but typically 1-2 bite sized or mini is under 100 calories
- Babybel Cheese Wheel
- Sugar Free Fudgesicle
- Small Baked Sweet Potato: No sugar or margarine added this is 65-85 calories
- ½ Toasted English Muffin with Sugar Free Fruit Spread
- Cottage Cheese with Fresh Fruit: 1 Cup Fat Free
- Roasted Tomato Slice with Low Fat Part Skim Mozzarella & Italian Seasonings: 1 small tomato sliced with 2 tablespoons cheese and sprinkle of favorite Italian seasonings
- Instant Oatmeal: (plain - add sugar substitute & cinnamon for flavor)
- V8 or other Tomato Juice Blend: 8oz
- Hard Boiled Egg: 1 Egg with Salt & Pepper is only 80 calories
- Egg White Scramble with 2 egg whites, spinach & diced tomato
- Almonds: 13 Whole
- Hummus & Vegetables for dipping: 3 tablespoons hummus is 80 calories. Use carrots, celery, broccoli, etc. for dipping and account accordingly
- Low Fat Low Sodium Canned Soup: Many brands carry low calorie soups that are under 100 calories per serving of 1-½ cups.
- Turkey Hot Dog (no bun)
- Dried Cranberries: ¼ cup
- Soft Drink: 8oz your favorite flavor
- Dry Cereal: ½-3/4 Cup Favorite Flavor. We love Froot Loops, Chex, Honey Nut Cheerios and Cocoa Puffs for fun and tasty snacks.
- Small Latte with Skim Milk
- Pomegranate: Face it - by the time you eat one you will have burned the calories within it
- Baked or Grilled Salmon: 2 oz. with no oil/margarine/butter. Bake or Grill with capers, dill and garlic
- Tuna: ¼ Cup Canned in water drained with 1 Teaspoon Spicy Mustard
- Nutella: 1 Tablespoon
Within this list you will find items that are healthy, full antioxidants and vitamins that fuel your body. You will also find both traditionally healthy and simply healthier versions of proteins and grains. There are also a few not so "healthy" snacks on this list of 45 snacks under 100 calories that some would say shouldn't belong on the list. But my philosophy in life is that if you deny yourself everything you love you will end up eating more of other things or binging and going back to unhealthy habits. The occasional sugary cereal, soft drink, chocolate or my beloved Nutella can help curb a craving and keep you moving in the right direction toward a healthier body and healthier habits. Always make sure to read labels on various brands as some of the same items (yogurts, crackers, etc.) may vary by up to 35 calories per serving size. All of these items must be truly measured. This is not a "grab and go", but prepare and measure mentality of controlling what you put into your body.
