There is no better comfort food than these Mozzarella Cheese Sticks Bread. They are absolutely amazing, easy, and low in calories and points. Using nonfat plain Greek yogurt in place of the traditional oils and butter leaves these as one of the best treats I have made lately that also fits the Weight Watchers program.
Mozzarella Cheese Sticks Bread
Here in Michigan, these are called Bosco sticks. Others call them cheese-stuffed bread. I just call them delicious! They are a version of mozzarella cheese sticks, and much more satisfying as a side to your favorite soup or pasta recipe!
Ingredients for Mozzarella Cheese Sticks Bread
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
6 light string cheese sticks
1 egg
Directions for Mozzarella Cheese Sticks Bread
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning until well combined.
Mix in Greek yogurt until the mixture begins to form a dough.
Lightly flour a clean surface, and turn dough out onto the surface to roll out to approximately ½" thickness. I roll into a rectangular shape for easy cutting later.
Cut the dough into 6 equal lengths
Place a cheese stick in the center of each length of dough and wrap dough around the dough pinching the two sides together to seal.
Place onto the baking sheet with seam side down.
Whisk an egg until light and frothy, and then brush the tops of the breadsticks with it before placing in the oven.
Place in oven on middle rack, and bake at 400 degrees for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown on top.
